Why extraction beats shampooing
Shampooing applies foam and wipes it off. The foam loosens soil and lifts some of it, but a meaningful amount of detergent stays behind in the fabric. That residue is slightly sticky, so it attracts dust, and the sofa gets visibly dirty again faster than before it was cleaned. It is the reason people say cleaning a sofa makes it worse.
